26, August 2008 A BOUCHERCON FOR THE NEXT GENERATION The Indianapolis Bouchercon is proud to present four programs for children and families:
Writers in the Classroom Inspired by the Anchorage Bouchercon's Writers in the Bush program, we will be sending mystery writers to Indiana schools to talk with students about mysteries and writing. As part of this program, we will be asking publishers to donate books by their authors to send to area classrooms.
|
Field trips to Bouchercon On Friday, October 16, 2009, school groups and home schoolers are invited to come to Bouchercon to interact with mystery authors. This program is aimed at elementary and middle school students. Suggested ages of students will depend on our final author line-up.
Family Day On Saturday, October 17, 2009, we will have the first programming for children and families at Bouchercon and a special children's lunch with our Honored Children's/Young Adult Author. (Check back later to find out who that is.)
Scouting Programs Also on Saturday, we hope to be able to offer reading and writing related badge workshops in conjunction with local scouting organizations.
Special Dealer's Room There will be a kid-focused dealer's room, lots of children's and young adult authors talking about their books and opportunities for kids to get books autographed.

24, June 2007 DOYLE, BOUCHER, FLEMING -- THIS WILL BLOW YOU AWAY! 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. tentative cost: $60
An exciting pre-conference event will take place on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Since Bouchercon 2009 coincides with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Baker Street Irregulars, a Sherlockian field trip is being planned to the Lilly Library located at the Indiana University in Bloomington.
Charter buses will depart from the convention hotel (Hyatt Regency Indianapolis) promptly at 8:30 a.m.
This day-long event begins with a fifty-minute bus ride to the Lilly Library, a repository of some original manuscripts by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Anthony Boucher, and Ian Fleming. There will be a morning lecture followed by a buffet lunch (included in the price of this trip) at the Indiana Memorial Union Building. An afternoon lecture is scheduled, but you will also have time to explore the exhibits on your own. Although the library will have a special display of their Sherlock Holmes material on exhibit throughout the autumn of 2009, they will exhibit some of their Boucher collection especially for Bouchercon 2009 attendees.
The day will wrap up with a reception provided by the Lilly Library at no cost to the attendees. Afterwards, catch a bus back to the Hyatt, arriving at the hotel at approximately 6:00 p.m.
You must register for Bouchercon 2009 in order to participate in this pre-conference event. Cost is $60.00 per person.
To Register: Go to RegOnline at http://www.regonline.com/bcon2009. Add the event when you register for Bouchercon.
